Yesterday, Q104 FM DJ BJ Wilson was the target of a backlash on Social Media. The criticism from listeners and local musicians came following a post on the station's Facebook page that described the DJ's account of "walking" from a Cheticamp pub after trying to negotiate a deal on the $8 cover.  The post included a graphic meme (shown below) that implied the cover charge was too high for a venue in the village.



Several prominent local musicians including Matt Minglewood, Colin Grant, and J.P. Cormier commented with their concerns.

However, the station updated the Facebook post later in the day to provide the DJ's account. He suggested that sharing the story was intended to be funny, was not intended to offend or disrespect anyone, and noted that he wanted to attempt to "unruffle some feathers".

His first offer was for Q104 FM to pay the cover charge for all guests of the Doryman Pub & Grill on Saturday. However, the Doryman consulted with the scheduled musicians and decided they would prefer the station to match the cover at the door on Saturday and donate it to a just cause.

In response to the Doryman's request, Q104 FM accepted and updated their offer in the original post:

"In an attempt to unruffle some feathers, we have been in touch with the owner of the Doryman Pub in Cheticamp and we would encourage anybody in the area to enjoy the Inverness trio “No Filter” this weekend. All cover charge paid at the door will be matched and a donation will be made to the Unison Benevolent Fund in support of music industry professionals in times of crisis.

They will now match all cover collected at the door on Saturday and donate it to the Unison Benevolent Fund.

The performance at the Doryman this Saturday evening will be by No Filter, an Inverness trio. They start at 9 PM with an $8 cover at the door.
