Yes, Count von Count is going to help us understand why 33 is an important number to anyone who wants to understand the controversy surrounding the proposed Big Pond Adventure/RV park. 

Why is 33 such a important number ?

You see, the CBRM Municipal Planning Strategy forbids campgrounds on sites where the noise will disturb - in an unreasonable way - people who live next or near to said sites. 

In the case of the Big Pond RV/adventure park project, CBRM Planning and Development assured the CBRM Council that a 33-foot buffer would mitigate any noise from the development that would disturb a reasonable neighbour. (No, this is not a magic buffer - in fact, it is an odd kind of buffer that will have things in it, like walking paths.)

As Count von Count will tell you, 33 is not a very high number. My driveway is almost 10 times 33 feet.

Fun activities can be loud. The CBRM planning strategy does not allow loud campgrounds that are likely to disturb people who live near them. A 33-foot buffer, logically, will not mitigate any of this noise. 

The CBRM planning/development department erred when they told Council that this would not be an unreasonably loud development that would disturb a quiet neighbourhood. 

In other RV news, I have asked Chris Skidmore to clarify why he is promoting a 1,000-foot sandy beach on his chosen development site where there is none. I receive a Facebook message informing me that Mr. Skidmore received my question, but as yet, no answer. 

If you support clear information sharing about developments, please visit Mr. Skidmore's marketing page on Facebook and ask that he explain why he continues to market this beach as part of his proposed campsite. It is really important that we get serious questions about this development answered - supporters and those in opposition to it.
